When it comes to doing exercise to lose weight it really isn't necessary to get "over complicated." The fact is, almost any kind of exercise will help you shed those unwanted pounds. You can of course join a gym or a sports club, but if you prefer you can get rid of just as much body fat without ever leaving your  local neighborhood or even your home.

Kettlebells
The Russian kettlebells have been around for a long time but only became popular in the west about ten years ago. Kettlebell routines have been proven to be so effective in burning off excess fat that they are used extensively by various keep-fit gurus. Even some militaries around the world are using kettlebell training routines to get their troops fighting fit. If you are looking for exercises to get rid of excess weight, you may not be trying to get literally fighting fit but you certainly won't go wrong with a kettlebell. They can be used for both aerobic and anaerobic exercises (building lean muscle) and are highly effective in turning boring exercise into great fun.

Running
Running is, without a doubt, one of the best cardio exercises you can do to help get rid of body-fat and it doesn't require any special equipment except a good pair of running shoes. You can burn off a lot of calories simply by  running up and down your street or through a park, and if  you really want to speed up podge-reduction then try running in a hilly location. It is not impossible for a 150-lb male to burn 300 calories in just a 30-minute run.  However, if you are not used to running, watch out for any discomfort in your ankles and knees.

Cycling
Cycling is one of my favourite cardio workouts. Cycling will also increase your overall stamina and especially the endurance of your leg muscles , while burning a lot of calories at the same time. In 30 minutes of cycling, you can lose anywhere from 250 to 500 calories depending on how steep the roads are and your cycling speed.

Elliptical Trainer
If you prefer to do your cardio workouts indoors and you don't like the idea of using kettlebells then you could try an elliptical trainer for cardio exercise. The only drawback with getting rid of fat with an elliptical trainer is that you do need to own one first ... so there can be quite a financial outlay. If you are considering getting an elliptical trainer then I recommend that you get one with arms, these can be very much like using a cross country ski machine. An elliptical trainer is also helpful in building stamina and physical endurance.

Swimming
Swimming is a full body exercise routine that is a great cardio workout. Some people with a reasonably high metabolism have been known to burn as many as 400 calories just by doing breaststroke for 30 minutes. Another great thing about swimming is you don't need to worry about high impact injuries on your joints, because your body is fully supported by water, but of course you do need to know how to swim :-)

Step Aerobics
Just like running or walking, step aerobics is a perfect flab-remover because you don't require much in the way of special equipment. All you need is a step. Step aerobics works your legs, hips and buttocks and in 30 minutes of exercise you can burn about 400 calories! You might need to work up to that but you will be eternally glad that you did as your overall fitness will also increase amazingly.

Walking
Walking is one of the simplest and most effective cardio exercises to lose weight. It is possible to burn 180 calories in 30 minutes, just by brisk walking. (Uphill is even better, of course.) Jogging for a few minutes at a time during your walk can increase the number of calories you burn and help speed your metabolism. Keep your head up, back straight and swing your arms to make it more effective!
