There has been a diet that has
been floating around Hollywood
for several decades, and has
been reputed to be used by
stars such as Beyonce, Oprah,
and also major models. Oprah
reportedly lost 20 pounds on
this diet. The host from the
British hit documentary, Super
Skinny Me, attempted to go on
the diet, and rapidly lost weight. It is both the biggest secret and the most well known emergency diet in the world. What is this diet called? It is called the Lemon Detox Diet, also known as the Master Cleanse Diet, or the Lemonade Diet.
The Lemon Detox Diet is extremely simple, and also extremely risky. A glass of lukewarm saltwater is swallowed during the morning, and then the dieter continues with a special cleanse/diet mixture. The diet itself consists of a drink made of maple syrup, cayenne pepper, lemon juice and water. The dieter can drink as much of this as she wants every day (well, as long as it's under 8 servings). Sometimes dieters will add a pinch of ginger to spice things up as well. Just so you have an idea or would like to try this mixture out, it makes sense to tell the recipe.
Here is the recipe (simply stir and drink):
- 8 oz of water
- A pinch of cayenne pepper or ginger
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 2 tablespoons of pure grade B maple syrup
There is a very obvious reason why this diet is known for working wonders on a person's waistline. Simply put, a dieter is taking in about 200-400 calories a day on this diet. It isn't a diet, per se, as much as it is a fast. Some dieters will use this cleanse for 1-3 days, and find a reasonable amount of weight is lost. It's not advised by most people to continue this cleanse for more than a week, but some people have used the Lemon Detox Diet for up to 3 weeks.
The reasoning behind the Lemon Detox diet is actually very understandable. The Lemon Detox diet is said to be rich in vitamin C, zinc, and (according to some) calcium. The sugars of the mixture keep people feeling energetic. The extremely low intake of calories would definitely cause people to lose weight. Some doctors even admit that if done safely (and for a short time), the Lemon Detox Diet can be a very safe and healthy way to lose weight quickly.
Many people explain that the Lemon Detox Diet is supposed to flush out the body by limiting the amount of toxins that enter the body. By flushing out the body with pure, organic citrus fruit and syrup, the liver will cleanse itself and heal itself. Whether this is true or not is debateable. One girl who had tried the Lemon Detox Diet admitted, "You will be shocked by how much you are flushed out." Another said that although she initially experienced a breakout and sickness to the stomach, after the cleanse, she felt "amazing...No joint pain, AT ALL."
Every site, however, does mention that it may not be ideal for "first time dieters" or "inexperienced" dieters. The most common form of advice that appears when the Master Cleanse diet is brought up on forums is to make the switch from large, solid meals to the liquid detox gradually. One detractor brings up the fear that doing a long-term, very low calorie diet may upset a person's natural metabolism and even slow it down, causing long-term weight gain. This is actually a legitimate and possible consequence of doing a cleanse for too long.
The bottom line about the Lemon Detox Diet is that it the diet can be wonderful or terrible, depending on what you are looking for in a diet. If you are looking for a sustainable, quick, and permanent weight loss, the Lemon Detox Diet might not be for you. If you are looking for a quick drop in weight for a special event, the Lemon Detox Diet might be a good choice. If you are looking for a cleanse that can eliminate toxic stuff out of you, the Lemon Detox Diet might be worth a shot. It is best to ask a doctor if this diet for you, and also read more in the Master Cleanse Diet book by Stanley Burroughs.
